CTA had an awesome weekend full of Red Flannel activities! CTA received awards, walked in the parade, and received a visit from the Red Flannel queen & her court.

CTA Breaks Ground On New Soccer Field CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. – Creative Technologies Academy held a ground breaking ceremony for their new soccer field on Wednesday, May 26. The property is located adjacent to the west side of their campus, which has been farmland owned by Fred and Carollee Gunnel. In March of 2018 the Gunnell’s gifted the 10 acres to CTA. Former Superintendent Dan George had approached the Gunnell’s in December 2017 to inquire if they would have any interest in selling 10 acres of their property for CTA for future development. Five days later, Mr. George received a phone call that Fred and Carollee had made the decision that they would like to donate the land to the charter school rather than sell it for a profit. Fred and Carollee Gunnell are both former educators and wanted to be able to gift the property to the school in order to provide more opportunities for the students at CTA. During the ceremony, CTA students and staff were in attendance along with members of the Ferris State Charter School Office and several community members. Honored guests included Jodi Coxon, representing the Coxon family who are the founders of CTA, former CTA Superintendent Dan George, CTA Board President Cynthia Patin, Fred Gunnell, and current CTA Superintendent Autumn Mattson. “Today is a very exciting day for our CTA students, staff and community and we are grateful to Fred and Carollee for their donation,” shared Mattson. “We want to also thank Mr. George for his passion towards CTA. It has been a privilege this past year working with our CTA Board of Directors and administration to make this project not just a dream but a reality. We are excited to see our students on this soccer field and are looking forward to the opportunities this will provide to partner with our community.” Dean’s Excavating will begin work on this project mid-summer with an estimated completion date for the fall. CTA is a Preschool through grade 12 public charter school endorsed by Ferris State University. CTA combines small class sizes, a family atmosphere and academic rigor to create a truly successful and innovative school.

Good morning, Chargers!! It's March and that means it's READING MONTH!! This year our theme is March is CELEBRATING Reading Month. Every month is a month to read - but March is about celebrating what we love about reading. As we continue to celebrate, I have had the opportunity to visit some classrooms, read to students, lead some fun art projects that are tied to the books and then gift each student a new book to take home. I've visited 1st, 2nd and 5th grades so far and have 3rd, 4th and Kinder up next. It's been a pleasure to dive into reading with our Chargers!! Staff and students have also been posting balloons all throughout the hallway for each book read. We will share photos at the end of the month to showcase all that are posted. Keep spreading that love of reading and finding ways to celebrate books at home as well! 💙🌎📚 #wearechargers #WeAreWorldChangers

Congratulations to CTA Spelling Bee Champion, sixth grader Penelope Rose (pictured right) and Runner-up, sixth grader Raelynn Dells (pictured left)! These two young ladies performed brilliantly to earn the top two places in the competition. They will now move on to the Regional Spelling Bee which will be held virtually on Feb. 23rd. Good luck girls and Go Chargers!!

Happy Friday Chargers!!! As we wrap up our first week of the 2nd semester, we wanted to highlight some of the wonderful things happening with our CTA Elementary kiddos! It was great getting our In-person learners back on campus and they jumped right back into the swing of things so smoothly. Today was also a wonderful success, allowing our teachers to connect with our Virtual students LIVE both individually and in small groups. This morning we had the privilege of visiting Ms. Norman's @funlovingfourthgrade room and walked through the States poster gallery created by our awesome 4th grade @ctachargers. Due to going remote, they have been waiting patiently to showcase their work - but it was well worth the wait! Learning about the uniqueness of each state in our country is just one of the many steps towards becoming World Changers!! Congrats to our very own World Changing 2014 CTA Alumni Alicia Kelley!! She has published her very own children's book! Alicia writes: "When I was in high school, I wrote a children's book for my senior project, with the hopes of someday having it published. Well, that "someday" came a few years later than I originally anticipated, but it's finally here! "See You Later, Alligator" is a few short days away from publication.The last few years this project has been in the back of my mind as well as the dream of becoming a bestselling author.
